Research Part 2: General Information of Film

 Introduction:

Spyglass Media Group is an independent production company. The independent production company distributes motion pictures with other companies or synergies that are often creatively autonomous. Action, thrillers and horror movies are generally the ideal movies produced by Spyglass.

  1. General Information about the film

  1. Thanksgiving (2023) is derived from the U.S. holiday, Thanksgiving, it’s very fitting for the motion picture, as it properly depicts the rave over Black Friday, reminding us of what the “sale day” amounts to.

    1. Year of release: 2023

    1. Cost of Production: $15 million

    1. Box Office: $45.6 million

    1. Available in Theaters, Streaming Platforms including Netflix, Prime Video and Apple TV, Blu-ray and DVD.

Thanksgiving (2023) will be assessed based on film-case studying. The movie was generally favorable, scoring a Metacritic score of 63. Some feel that the movie gets caught between competing impulses, with the intent to satirize society with an attempt of being a classic campy slasher.” On the other hand, others feel that the movie paid homage to Grindhouse (2007) as a parody of the exploitation during the new concept. The opening engages its target audience through means of cause and effect, a compelling visual image highlighting the events; as chaos takes place in the Right-Mart superstore, over a free waffle iron deal provided to the first 100 customers, the individuals that snuck in earlier are to blame, just immaculate purity!

The result — although highly anticipated, finally arriving in theaters 16 years after it first entered the imaginations of horror fans everywhere.

Research 1: Genre, Target Audience and Production Companies

 Introduction:

My film genre is Thriller, and I chose it as my go-to genre because I want to evoke feelings of unease. Thrillers have the power to keep you on the edge of your seat, heart racing and mind guessing. Overall, the general tension that’s created and the unexpected endings really fascinate me, and I want my audience to experience that. Horror and Mystery will be incorporated as subgenres into the film’s narrative as it enhance the viewer’s experience into the plot development and engages curiosity. Millennials and Gen Z are my adolescent-aimed target audience; young adults, starting with mature teenagers, as they are less intellectually demanding and are more drawn to graphic tension around the storyline. For audiences younger than this, the prevalent themes of violence and mature subject matters may not be suitable.

  1. Genre

  1. Film genre: Thriller

  1. Subgenre(s)- mystery and horror

  1. Accessibility to film genre

  • The desired target audience tends to watch movies in cinemas and on streaming platforms including Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Disney+.
  •  Households making $60,000 or less in income fit into the middle-lower socio-economic status.

  • Film openings that are either fan-based driven or feature prominent or rising actors and actresses are generally preferred from the vox-pop; the
    targeted audience.

Reflection:

In this movie research me and my partner along with our production company agreed to used the new thriller movie " Thanksgiving". Its a thriller horror movie where in a small town someone with an old pilgram mask is going around killing people and they have to figure out who it os before thanksgiving dinner. Its has the same genre as our movie " subterfuge" .

Pre-productions: New beginnings

 Introduction:

Recently, like I said in a recent update of "teammate troubles", I started working with a new partner, and everything is going well until we realized we needed to somehow merge our movie ideas, pick one of ours, or come up with a completely new idea. Since he had a group and left due to some division of work complications, he let his old group keep his movie idea, so using his was out of the question. Since its already January and we want to have our movie finished by the end of February, we can't make a new movie, we cant merage them either because his old group took his idea and our movies were already pretty similar as it was. So since I was by myself and haven't exposed my movie much yet we only had the option of using my movie idea and gave it a few adjustments

Preliminary Exercise 17: Film Production and Postproduction.

 Introduction:

Understanding storyboarding with editing techniques in mind is very important not only to the look of the film but also do show meaning within the scenes and how the audience should feel, or what to understand about it.  Using the wrong editing technique could altar the meaning of the clip your making and if you don't take it into account you might have to start over because the clips might not match up correctly. For example, using shot reverse shot in a movie is used for conversations to show how each person reacts to the other and their words during the conversation. This helps portray the mood and tone in the movie. In this exercise me and my teammate are making small clips to help us better understand and build our editing skills.

Group progression: Teammate tranquility

  Introduction:

For the past few months, ever since my last teammate left, I have strictly been working by myself on all of my preliminary exercises and filming, but recently, another kid in my media study class has asked me to help him record his videos and brainstorm ideas for his part 1 film development. Eventually, we realized our movies have a lot in common, basically have the same ideas and we work amazingly together. So by the end of the class period, I have gain a new teammate and now we will continue working together on all of our preliminary exercises, filming, storyboarding and more

Preliminary Exercise 15: Planning, Filming, Recording and Editing Sound in Film in a Shot.

Introduction:

The purpose of this post is to give myself a little glance at what it is like to work on shots and direct them myself for my movie. I had to plan out every step i took to make the shot how it is, I had to think about mise en scene, dialogue, sound effects and more while also staying on topic for the actually scene.

Reflection:

In this exercise I learned how to format a scene. I learned that I needed to take into account other outside noises not just me, because other groups were recording too and when I finished my first draft, i could hear them in the background so I had to restart, but eventually, I got everything down. I got my lines, lighting, and mood down just how i wanted it.
